Stay

TEST SITE FOR ART & TRAVEL EXPERIENCES

Casa WAN is a quiet and intimate place in nature where travellers stay and artists experiment. Located near the village of Aljezur, Portugal, our boutique guesthouse is surrounded by ocean and lake vistas.

For bookings, artist residencies and collaborations contact casa@whereaboutnow.com

Guests who stay at Casa WAN directly support and gain insight into an artist’s practice and enable the time and space for creative endeavors on site.

One invited international or local artist can stay cost-free for up to two months with access to a private studio. The artist is welcome to think and create, to research and play and leave behind a trace of their stay.

While you can book the house exclusively for yourself (6-8 people), private double rooms with en-suite bathrooms can be rented during the artist residency. The artist in residence will also live and work on the property and we will hold small gatherings.

One of Casa WAN´s main draws is its central yet peaceful location (no direct neighbours). Overlooking exquisite natural beauty and boasting lake and ocean views, the only sounds you´ll hear nearby are those of birdsong, waves, and the gentle rustling of your lush green surrounds.

It is personally decorated with vintage furniture, sustainable brands and preloved (design) objects. The bed frames and mattresses are high-quality and handmade from natural materials by COCO-MAT. You will sleep on nature.

Upon arrival, you´ll receive an exclusive welcome letter filled with our recommendations on the best natural and cultural experiences in the area.

WAN is the acronym of our main platform, Where About Now. The initials are also meaningful for us, not just in a geographical (where) sense but a metaphorical sense, too. Casa WAN is located in a truly magical place and has set itself the goal of questioning: the contemporary (now).

The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. The numerous hours of sunlight bathe the landscape in a color palette of lights and shape the theatrical coastal region in the northwest around the small village of Aljezur.
