Casa WAN is a quiet and intimate place in nature where travellers stay and artists experiment. Located near the village of Aljezur, Portugal, the boutique guesthouse is surrounded by ocean and lake vistas.

It is a very personal project by Nadja von Buseck. I grew up in a hotel myself and later added the component of art to my profession. Today I work at the intersection of the creative and visitor economy and live between Aljezur, Berlin and Salzburg.

Guests who stay at Casa WAN directly support and gain insight into an artist’s practice and enable the time and space for creative endeavors on site.

One invited international or local artist can stay cost-free for up to one month with access to a private studio. The artist is welcome to think and create, to research and play and leave behind a trace of their stay.

While you can book the house exclusively for yourself (6 people) most of the time, private double rooms with en-suite bathrooms can be rented during the artist residency. The artist in residence will also live and work on the property and we will hold small gatherings.

One of Casa WAN´s main draws is its central yet peaceful location (no direct neighbours). Overlooking exquisite natural beauty and boasting lake and ocean views, the only sounds you´ll hear nearby are those of birdsong, waves, and the gentle rustling of your lush green surrounds.

It is personally decorated with vintage furniture, sustainable brands and preloved (design) objects. The bed frames and mattresses are high-quality and handmade from natural materials by COCO-MAT. You will sleep on nature.

Upon arrival, you´ll receive an exclusive welcome guide filled with personal recommendations on the best natural and cultural experiences in the area.

WAN is the acronym of the main platform, Where About Now. The initials are also meaningful, not just in a geographical (where) sense but a metaphorical sense, too. Casa WAN is located in a truly magical place and has set itself the goal of questioning: the contemporary (now).

Exclusive to guests staying at Casa Wan, the Aljezur-based contemporary chef Maria Gonzales offers a fully stocked fridge upon arrival paired with fresh ingredients and local produce. Maria can also be booked for private dinners in our guesthouse or she can assemble tasty picnic baskets for a relaxing day by the beach.

Upon request, I will design your entire Portugal trip and create an individual program for you. This can be during your stay in my house, but also before and after in other exciting places.
